This lecture will try to share Clinical Guidelines for easily copy/pasting in your ER summary an updated and simple protocol for handling your patients. 7. TECHNIQUES (Workshops)

• Wound care and bandaging techniques in Hand Surgery
• Immobilizations:
  Splints, casts and orthosis. Techniques and basic indications.
• Anesthesia:
  Techniques for safely and effectively applying local anesthesia in the upper limb
• Closed reductions:
  Combined technical use of fluoroscopy, traction techniques and devices and specific maneuvers for conservative treatments.
• Suturing techniques for skin, tendons, ligaments and basic nerve repair.
• Use of ultrasounds for the closed reduction of fracures
• Cadaver and microsurgical courses: these could eventually end up being part of our program.

4. Basic and specific topics

• These topics will be discussed in two slots for presentations per session (15 min each) throughout the year.
• The topics are presented in the next slides
• The proposed dates and planning will be posted at Google calendars: https://www.google.com/calendar/render?hl=es#g
• The topics will be clustered in related groups for, hopefully, increasing the immersion into the pathology of an anatomical region

3. Friendly and open environment

• There is rarely a single answer for a specific clinical question in Medicine. However, many times there is more evidence for favoring an answer over others.
• Our efforts would be focused on making questions and answers that could help us all being better professionals.
• The evolving nature of Medicine can eventually turn today’s favored answers into tomorrow’s less graced on. Thus, all answers are of potential major interest.

2. Proposed Initial Methods (may be subject to change)

• Two Sessions will be held per month:

1.  45 minutes before the MOSH Grand Rounds (usually from 7:15 pm to 8:00 pm, at the same hotel of the Rounds), which is normally held on the last Tuesday of every month.
2. Two weeks before every month’s MOSH Grand Rounds, on a Tuesday (from 6:15 pm to 7:00 pm, at the main Meeting room at our second floor at MOSH)

• Each session will have two 15 minute slots (which implies 4 slots per month). Thus, there will be a total of 15 min more for discussing the topics per slot.
• Two slots will be dedicated for “Basic” or “Advanced” lecture topics, one slot will be dedicated for discussing a Case and one slot will be used for a Workshop

1. Objectives

 

• Create a friendly and open environment for Doctors and Nurses and Physiotherapists interested Hand Surgery
• Review gradually basic and advanced topics in Hand Surgery according to the latest Evidence Based Medicine (EBM)
• Discuss interesting cases matching them against the latest EBM

Welcome to the "MOSH Hand Surgery Meetings"!

We are delighted to introduce the Medcare Orthopaedics and Spine Hospital's meetings in Hand Surgery (“MOSH Hand Surgery Meetings").

The “MOSH Hand Surgery Meetings 2015/2016” was an initiative launched in January 2015 after the proposal made by our Registrars to our Unit of Hand Surgery at MOSH for deepening their specific continuous medical education in this subject.

“MOSH Hand Surgery Meetings” is intended to last for as long as there is sufficient audience for maintaining it. At present, the initiative has no CME credits.

Most of the content at the meetings will probably be presented by our Staff at the Unit of Hand Surgery (http://www.medcareorthopaedics.com/our-doctors/area-of-expertise/hand), however, any initiatives will be welcomed.

We sincerely hope that this initiative ends up being of interest for all possible Doctors, Nurses and Physiotherapists from our hospital and any other hospital in the UAE or abroad.
